Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:

CU Potential and KVFCU Merger
Mark has covered the KVFCU merger on past episodes of The CU Scoop, but he wanted to let you in on the coverage on the CU Potential blog. Christian Mullins is doing a great job writing about the merger process, so check out his blog for more info about KVFCU.

Open Source CU on Credit Unions and the Economy
Brent Dixon recently posted on the Open Source CU blog about how credit unions are getting a lot of positive attention in the news lately as the economic crisis continues to trouble banks. He shares some news snapshots from news stories that feature a lot of CU love, and asks how credit unions should respond to the positive attention. Check out the blog to get in on the conversation.

The Ask Jack Blog
Members Credit Union has launched an “Ask Jack” blog, where their CEO, Jack Braswell, will basically ask questions submitted by members of their credit union. They do a lot of video on the blog, which you know we love. :) Mark thinks this is a great way to communicate with your CU’s members, so go and check out the Ask Jack blog now!

Making Boring Stuff Fun!
Lisa Hochgraf posts on the CUES Skybox blog about how to teach members about important (yet, boring) things about credit unions through the use of fun. She points out the unique way that Larissa Walkiw and Common Wealth CU made learning about the difference between banks and credit unions fun. Lisa asks for other examples of teaching members about your products and services that are fun. Get in on the conversation here.

The CU Scoop - National Followers (Ep. 19)

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:

National Credit Union Brand
Mark talks about a hot debate going on over in the CU Tomorrow Blog. Jill Nowacki posted about a national credit union brand, but not necessarily a national advertising campaign. Jill started a great conversation on the blog, even sparking posts on other blogs. This is a hot topic right now, so check out the above links to read through the posts and comments, then share your own thoughts!

Credit Unions are like Lemmings
Mark also mentions an article posted by Robbie Wright that discusses how credit unions are like lemmings. Here’s a quote from the article:

“Credit unions are lemmings. Nobody ever wants to be the first one to do something. Then, slowly, as some credit unions adopt the new technology/process/whatever more CU’s start to follow. Pretty soon it is a mad rush because nobody wants to be the last.”

If you agree that credit unions seem to play follow the leader when it comes to innovation, let us know by commenting on the blog, or sharing your thoughts on the original post. Also, lemmings are real. Mark didn’t know that. Did you?

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:

BarCampBankNewEngland
BarCampBankNewEngland was held on April 5th, 2008 in New Hampshire. There was a ton of really great coverage was posted online for those who couldn’t attend to check out. BarCampBankNewEngland was held at the America’s Credit Union Museum. See? BarCampBanks aren’t JUST for banks at all!

BarCampBankDallas
Speaking of BarCampBanks, we’re going to hold a BarCampBankDallas on June 21-22 in the Dallas area. We encourage all credit union people who want to attend to come be a part of BarCampBankDallas! BanktasticTV’s very own Brad Garland & Mark McSpadden will be in attendance! It’s going to be great, and we hope to see you there!

Christian Mullins’ Blog
Mark stumbled across Christian Mullins’ blog, which will soon be the CU Potential website. Christian currently keeps his readers up-to-date with information that you’d be pressed to find anywhere else. He keeps daily tabs on news including information on crimes related to CUs. We highly suggest you keep an eye on his blog, and while you’re at it, check out his 4-part series on the anatomy of a merger.
