Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:
Have you ever used the word “spondu”?
On a rather silly note, Brad brought up the fact that I use the word “spondu” on occasion. There’s a quite nice example of what the definition is in this video. He wants to know if any of you have ever heard of or used the word…ever. So comment back and let us know. I swear the word is real!
BIG Metrics Demo Account for Banktastic Members David G. worked out a nice deal with the people from BIG Metrics to get a demo account for Banktastic members to try out. He thought the application was so great that he wanted to share the wealth with everybody else. To find out what BIG Metrics is about and get the demo account information, click here. We’d like to send a huge thank you to David for working this out for us. You rock!
Private Message about Web 2.0
Brad received a nice private message from David A. about technology leaders and their knowledge of Web 2.0. There’s a great discussion to be had on this topic. Do you think that technology leaders know anything about social media, and would it help them at all to know it? Comment back on the blog and let us know what you think.
New Features on Banktastic!
We’ve rolled out a few new features on Banktastic! The first one is a nice little algorithm we’ve setup in all main sections of Banktastic to show you what’s “hot” and what’s “fresh.” Based on community activity, you can see what’s the most popular content out there by clicking “hot”, or check out the latest news, questions or vendor ratings by clicking “fresh.” It’s a great new way to sort content on Banktastic. Check it out!
The other BIG thing we’ve rolled out this week is a groups section that’s not currently available to the public version of Banktastic. We’ve given associations, member groups, credit union leagues and many more the opportunity to use Banktastic as a communication tool to stay in touch between conferences. It’s like a mini-Banktastic all for particular group. An established group can share announcements, post articles, private message anybody within the group, and ask questions all within the privacy of your own group. You have the option of keeping all of your content private, or sharing it openly with the rest of the Banktastic community. It’s a great way to keep your members connected in between events or meetings.
Here’s a little sneak-peek at what a group looks like:
If you’d like more information about groups or are thinking of creating one in Banktastic, please contact brad@banktastic.com or lisa@banktastic.com. We’d be more than happy to setup a webinar to show you all the capabilities of a group on Banktastic.

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:
Age Is Just a Number
An issue arose in the online credit union world when Trey Reeme was misquoted in the CU Times as saying, “60-plus-year old directors looking at the industry’s future should seriously consider stepping down to make way for a generation more connected to new technology.” (I’m not even going to link to the original article, here’s Trey’s take. You can get to the original from there.)
Of course Trey didn’t say that at all, but a great conversation about ages & trends in credit unions came of all of this. You can find the base of the conversation in the comments at Ron Shevlin’s Blog and there are other links within that thread that are worth checking out. (Also worth noting, Ron has a classy apology to Trey that is worth a read as well.)

The Banktastics also got together to discuss openly our new private messaging feature on Banktastic.com. We really appreciate the feedback we’ve gotten so far about whether or not to make messaging completely open. We wanted to take a few minutes and share with you our own personal thoughts on the messaging system we’ve implemented.
Watch the video and let us know your thoughts on the private messaging system on Banktastic!
We thought it would be fun to share with you all how things went down on April 29 with covering FinovateStartup 2008. There were a lot of things we were able to do that other people covering the event weren’t able to. We reviewed, we interviewed, we invited guests to join us, and we brought it all live to you throughout the day. We hope you enjoyed our coverage, so feel free to watch our “casual Friday” discussion on how it went!

FinonvateStartup Coverage
Mark & Brad visited San Francisco on April 29th for FinovateStartup 2008. They got a lot of really great footage from demoing companies, which are all available to view on the Banktastic Blog. If you were unable to attend FinovateStartup, we encourage you to check out the blog to read reviews posted by Mark & Brad live during the demos.
Interview with Zopa
We’d like to give a huge thanks to Doug Dolton, CEO of Zopa, for letting us interview him for Banktastic at Finovate! We’d like to encourage everybody to check out the Zopa website to see what they’re all about. Thanks again, Doug! Congratulations on your win at Finovate this year!

One more thing we added to make Banktastic more user-friendly is avatar actions! If you see a conversation and you want to see someone’s profile or message them immediately, just hover over their profile picture and go from there! It’s a great way to connect with someone immediately without a lot of clicking.
Have fun with all the new features, and let us know what you think!
The Banktastics have been hard at work at bringing some great new features to our community, and we’ve just released the best set yet! We’d like to introduce our new private messaging system on Banktastic!
We setup this system to encourage communication with one another on Banktastic. If you want to start a conversation with someone or ask them a direct question, just simply click the “Send Message” button on their profile to get started! You will be notified by email when you receive a new private message on Banktastic. You’ll also be able to see a list of your new messages on your Dashboard and on your own profile page. So if you’d ever like to opt out of receiving email notifications of new messages, you can edit your profile and uncheck the box marked “Notify me when someone sends me a private message.” You’ll still be able to see your messages when you login.
In addition to the private messaging system, we’ve added a lot of helpful information to the site. For those a little unsure of everything you can do on Banktastic, we’ve added a visual tour page. Here you can browse through different sections of Banktastic and read up on what each page is all about. This is really helpful for new members or current members who haven’t gotten a chance to explore the site.
We’ve also included a really great help page for when you get in a bind on Banktastic. If you ever find a bug or just need some assistance, feel free to visit the help page and contact one of the Banktastics.
Let us know what you think of the new private messaging and other features! Also, if you ever have an idea that would make Banktastic better, feel free to shoot us an email at lisa@banktastic.com. We look forward to your input!
The guys saw a lot of innovative companies demoing at Finovate, and we happened to get some really great interviews with a few of them. Article: Wells Fargo Announces vSafe
Wells Fargo recently announced “vSafe”, which is an online safe for their retail customers. vSafe allows customers to store things like audio, video, pictures, and many other popular file types online without having to keep clutter at home or on their own computers. This is a really great service, so props to you, Wells Fargo!
Article: Frontier Airlines Files Chapter 11
Frontier Airlines recently had to file for Chapter 11 due to an unreasonable increase in withholdings in funds received from ticket sales by their credit card processor, First Data. First Data notified the airlines that they intended to begin withholding 50% of their credit card sales, which was a huge threat that inevitably ran Frontier out of business.

BarCampBankNewEngland
BarCampBankNewEngland was held on April 5th, 2008 in New Hampshire. There was a ton of really great coverage was posted online for those who couldn’t attend to check out. BarCampBankNewEngland was held at the America’s Credit Union Museum. See? BarCampBanks aren’t JUST for banks at all!

Christian Mullins’ Blog
Mark stumbled across Christian Mullins’ blog, which will soon be the CU Potential website. Christian currently keeps his readers up-to-date with information that you’d be pressed to find anywhere else. He keeps daily tabs on news including information on crimes related to CUs. We highly suggest you keep an eye on his blog, and while you’re at it, check out his 4-part series on the anatomy of a merger.

Brad’s Thoughts on This Episode
Hey folks, sorry for the ’silence’ this week but whaddya gonna do, right?! I just again wanted to give MUCHO props to Seesmic for helping us with this episode. Those video responses were received within a minutes after my initial post and they came from all over the world. It’s a great way to see how conversations have truly gone global.
Anyway, I realize that a lot of these folks are on one end of the tech-savvy scale but I don’t necessarily think they are exceptions. People want their banking experience to be less obtrusive so by using a lot of online services they are able to do so but notice that these people still don’t feel comfortable handling ‘bigger chores’ like car loan or mortgages yet because the online experience hasn’t made them feel comfortable enough to do it. All great responses and hopefully it provides some insight into the minds of the banking consumer.
Thanks again for watching The Burst and yes, we are changing the industry!
Thanks to Everybody from Seesmic!
We’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone that participated in our Seesmic video survey. We got some fantastic feedback, all of which will help bankers learn more about the banking trends of everyday people. You all were a great help, so thank you!

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:
WhatAreYouSavingFor.com
One of Mark’s favorite site launches from April 1st was WhatAreYouSavingFor.com. Started by Members Credit Union based out of North Carolina, WAYSF.com is a great online tool for those with What Are You Saving For? accounts at MCU. They’ve developed a community to help encourage people to continue saving if they run into any speed bumps reaching their goal. It’s a great motivational tool for those trying to save some money.
Banktastic.com
A little bit of self-promotion, but totally necessary. Banktastic relaunched on April 1st with a brand new look as well as a new reviews feature. We’ve made it easier to post news articles and ask questions. The site is quite a bit more user-friendly, so go check it out if you haven’t yet!

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:
Good People Day 2008 Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV declared April 3, 2008, the first ever Good People Day. The point was to give props to the good people in your life, so Brad wanted to take a minute and say thanks to each and every person that’s ever visited Banktastic, watched an episode of our show, and helped make us who we are today. We couldn’t do it without you all, so thank you, good people!
Website of the Week: Banktastic.com!
That’s right, we chose ourselves as the Website of the Week. If you somehow missed the big release of Banktastic’s new look this past Tuesday, April 1st, run over to our community and check it out! We added a new reviews section to Banktastic that allows users to rate and comment on vendors and their products & services. Also, we had a great April Fool’s video, and if you missed it, watch it now!
The second question that we’re discussing was asked by JB Dearing, and he asked so with the makeover, does this mean Banktastic is out of beta? The short answer to that is we’re never really out of beta. Follow the conversation on Banktastic to see what others had to say by following the question link.
