Partnership Symposium
We were at Partnership Symposium in Indianapolis last week checking out all things credit unions! Mark and I met a lot of really great people we’ve been connected with through Banktastic and Twitter, and shared a lot of really great conversations with everybody.
We interviewed people, played games, took pics, and we’re bringing the best of the best to you in this episode. Check out some interview snippets from some of the most innovative people in the credit union industry while getting a good laugh or two!

Good morning, everybody! I’m writing to you from Indianapolis where I’m covering Partnership Symposium with Mark McSpadden. Below is the live streaming video of the presentations from Forum’s Conference Center. We’ll keep you connected to this event all day today and tomorrow, so keep watching! In between sessions, I’ll try to interview the presenters. If you have any questions you want asked, just shoot me an email at lisa@banktastic.com.

BarCampBankBC
Brad wanted to touch on the awesomeness that was BarCampBankBC. Though we discussed it in this week’s episode of “The CU Scoop”, it’s well worth bringing to “The Burst!” There was a lot of great content coming out of this event. Check the videos posted by Brent Dixon over on OpenSourceCU and the live blogging from William Azaroff here.
Hurricanes and FIs
Brad asked recently if our members knew of any banks or credit unions that were directly affected by the recent gulf coast hurricanes. One of our Banktastic members was able to use Twitter via his phone to continually update everybody on the status of his bank. It was really interesting to see how despite power outages, we as a community are still able to communicate. If you have any stories to share from this past string of hurricanes, please feel free to do so on Banktastic.
Kids Cash Connection
We discuss in this episode a site that Brad came across called “Kids Cash Connection.” The site is dedicated to helping teach children about business and finances. We’re asking if you think that the children they’re targeting are even interested in learning about finances. I know that as a child, saving money or being “financially responsible” took a backseat to playing cops and robbers. We’d like you to check out their website and let us know if you think their efforts are going to hit home with the children they’re targeting. We’d love to hear from you all at Kids Cash Connection, so comment back if you have any feedback!
Partnership Symposium!
Just a friendly reminder that Mark and I will be at Partnership Symposium next week. We’re going to bring you some great behind-the-scenes footage along with interviews from attendees. Check out BanktasticTV next week to get in on the action!

BarCampBankBC!
Many people came together this past weekend at BarCampBankBC. The attendees worked hard to bring the content to those unable to attend. We’d encourage you to check out the streaming video posted by Brent Dixon over on OpenSourceCU and the live blogging from William Azaroff here.
We’d like to encourage you to get up and check out the upcoming BarCampBank events to see if you can get registered for one or help plan one in the making! BarCampbankCharleston is coming up on October 25, so check it out if you can!
Find Us at Partnership Symposium!
Just in case you’ve forgotten, Partnership Symposium is next week! Yes, Mark and I will be in Indianapolis to check out this big event, and we plan on bringing you some good content in the next couple of episode of “The CU Scoop!” If you’re going to be at the event, we’d love it if you stopped us and said hi. We’ll be filming our show at the event, so stop us if you see cameras in our hands - you could be in our next episode!

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:
The US Economy & Wall Street
With bailouts, buyouts and bankruptcy making news every day lately, we had to touch on it in this week’s episode. How and when will this affect us as consumers? Why aren’t some companies just allowed to fail? Is this coming out of the pockets of taxpayers? In trying to make sense of what this means for us and our economy, we brought the issue up. Feel free to expand on your thoughts of the recent downturn by commenting on the blog.
Discrimination in P2P Lending
I shared an article that I found on the Marketing ROI blog regarding research done on a year’s worth of activity on the P2P lending site, Prosper. According to the research, African-Americans, older borrowers, members considered unattractive or without an image at all were less likely to be bid on, while lenders tended to favor military members and single women. It was very interesting to read that even slightly altering the information that someone looking for a loan wrote out would make a difference in the amount of bids they received. This included changing your picture to something pleasant, or not getting too detailed to prevent giving a negative feel to your loan request.
Student Internship Help!
We’re working on starting an internship program, and we’re looking for some feedback. If you’ve ever started a program like this and have any pointers or information we could benefit from, please send it our way! We’ll be scouting at local universities to find the right fits, and look forward to helping some undergrads get their foot in the door.

ABA Bank Marketing Conference
On this episode, Jeff and Brady Walen hit up the attendees of ABA’s Bank Marketing Conference in Denver, CO. They want to find out if the information given at this marketing conference will actually help you to step-up your marketing initiatives. See what those interviewed say they’re taking away from this big conference.

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:
TheCULoop Discusses the KVFCU Conversion
KVFCU in Maine is in the process of potentially converting over to a bank, and Andy LaFlamme discusses the controversial move in his blog, . The conversation is already going with some great questions stemming from it. We highly suggest reading up on the conversion and following it as it unfolds.
MyLifeMyMoney vs. Young & Free
A very hot discussion that’s been hitting the blogs lately was what some are considering a blatant rip-off by Resource 1 CU (Dallas) of Common Wealth CU (Alberta). If you’re somehow unaware of the situation, Common Wealth CU launched the Young & Free campaign targeted to Gen Y by use of social media, attractive incentives and a “spokester.” Recently, Resource 1 CU announced it’s program, MyLifeMyMoney, which seems like an almost carbon copy of Young & Free’s campaign, from the incentives to the stick figure people used in Y&F’s videos. Share your thoughts with us on this situation - do you think it’s okay for one CU to borrow/use/rip-off another CU’s idea?
TDECU and Hurricane Ike
As Hurricane Ike slammed the gulf coast of Texas this weekend, TDECU, based out of Lake Jackson, TX, used its blog to help people out. They kept an eye on the situation and updated their blog with new information as often as they could to provide a central location where their members could come and see the current status of the status. We think it was a very interesting way for TDECU to communicate with their members during a time of need. Good job, guys!

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The CU Scoop” featuring Mark McSpadden. Here are some important notes about this episode:
Filene Implementation Podcast
Mark discusses a really interesting podcast that Filene recorded with Educators Credit Union about implementation. This CU implemented several of Filene’s i3 ideas, and focus on how they made them work during this podcast. Definitely interesting to learn about the implementation instead of focusing on just the innovation!
ThatCreditUnionBlog
Mark wanted to suggest a blog to you all. Check out ThatCreditUnionBlog run by Rob Rutkowski. It’s full of really great information regarding the credit union movement submitted by Rob and other members at his firm. Check out the blog and subscribe to it - you won’t be disappointed!

Thanks for checking out the first episode of BanktasticTV’s “I Know Y.” Here are some important notes about this episode:
Internet Usage
For this episode, I was able to interview some great high school students while they were playing at a local game venue. My focus for this episode was to get some insight into how they use the internet. Facebook vs. Myspace, do they use Twitter, and a few more. The answers might surprise you, so check it out!
