CU Potential and KVFCU Merger
Mark has covered the KVFCU merger on past episodes of The CU Scoop, but he wanted to let you in on the coverage on the CU Potential blog. Christian Mullins is doing a great job writing about the merger process, so check out his blog for more info about KVFCU.
Open Source CU on Credit Unions and the Economy
Brent Dixon recently posted on the Open Source CU blog about how credit unions are getting a lot of positive attention in the news lately as the economic crisis continues to trouble banks. He shares some news snapshots from news stories that feature a lot of CU love, and asks how credit unions should respond to the positive attention. Check out the blog to get in on the conversation.
The Ask Jack Blog
Members Credit Union has launched an “Ask Jack” blog, where their CEO, Jack Braswell, will basically ask questions submitted by members of their credit union. They do a lot of video on the blog, which you know we love. Mark thinks this is a great way to communicate with your CU’s members, so go and check out the Ask Jack blog now!
Making Boring Stuff Fun!
Lisa Hochgraf posts on the CUES Skybox blog about how to teach members about important (yet, boring) things about credit unions through the use of fun. She points out the unique way that Larissa Walkiw and Common Wealth CU made learning about the difference between banks and credit unions fun. Lisa asks for other examples of teaching members about your products and services that are fun. Get in on the conversation here.

BarCampBankBC!
Many people came together this past weekend at BarCampBankBC. The attendees worked hard to bring the content to those unable to attend. We’d encourage you to check out the streaming video posted by Brent Dixon over on OpenSourceCU and the live blogging from William Azaroff here.
We’d like to encourage you to get up and check out the upcoming BarCampBank events to see if you can get registered for one or help plan one in the making! BarCampbankCharleston is coming up on October 25, so check it out if you can!

TheCULoop Discusses the KVFCU Conversion
KVFCU in Maine is in the process of potentially converting over to a bank, and Andy LaFlamme discusses the controversial move in his blog, . The conversation is already going with some great questions stemming from it. We highly suggest reading up on the conversion and following it as it unfolds.
MyLifeMyMoney vs. Young & Free
A very hot discussion that’s been hitting the blogs lately was what some are considering a blatant rip-off by Resource 1 CU (Dallas) of Common Wealth CU (Alberta). If you’re somehow unaware of the situation, Common Wealth CU launched the Young & Free campaign targeted to Gen Y by use of social media, attractive incentives and a “spokester.” Recently, Resource 1 CU announced it’s program, MyLifeMyMoney, which seems like an almost carbon copy of Young & Free’s campaign, from the incentives to the stick figure people used in Y&F’s videos. Share your thoughts with us on this situation - do you think it’s okay for one CU to borrow/use/rip-off another CU’s idea?
TDECU and Hurricane Ike
As Hurricane Ike slammed the gulf coast of Texas this weekend, TDECU, based out of Lake Jackson, TX, used its blog to help people out. They kept an eye on the situation and updated their blog with new information as often as they could to provide a central location where their members could come and see the current status of the status. We think it was a very interesting way for TDECU to communicate with their members during a time of need. Good job, guys!
