The Burst - A Double Dose of Davids (Ep. 16)

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Download this video

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

Have you ever used the word “spondu”?
On a rather silly note, Brad brought up the fact that I use the word “spondu” on occasion. There’s a quite nice example of what the definition is in this video. He wants to know if any of you have ever heard of or used the word…ever. So comment back and let us know. I swear the word is real!

BIG Metrics Demo Account for Banktastic Members
David G. worked out a nice deal with the people from BIG Metrics to get a demo account for Banktastic members to try out. He thought the application was so great that he wanted to share the wealth with everybody else. To find out what BIG Metrics is about and get the demo account information, click here. We’d like to send a huge thank you to David for working this out for us. You rock!

Private Message about Web 2.0
Brad received a nice private message from David A. about technology leaders and their knowledge of Web 2.0. There’s a great discussion to be had on this topic. Do you think that technology leaders know anything about social media, and would it help them at all to know it? Comment back on the blog and let us know what you think.

New Features on Banktastic!
We’ve rolled out a few new features on Banktastic! The first one is a nice little algorithm we’ve setup in all main sections of Banktastic to show you what’s “hot” and what’s “fresh.” Based on community activity, you can see what’s the most popular content out there by clicking “hot”, or check out the latest news, questions or vendor ratings by clicking “fresh.” It’s a great new way to sort content on Banktastic. Check it out!

The other BIG thing we’ve rolled out this week is a groups section that’s not currently available to the public version of Banktastic. We’ve given associations, member groups, credit union leagues and many more the opportunity to use Banktastic as a communication tool to stay in touch between conferences. It’s like a mini-Banktastic all for particular group. An established group can share announcements, post articles, private message anybody within the group, and ask questions all within the privacy of your own group. You have the option of keeping all of your content private, or sharing it openly with the rest of the Banktastic community. It’s a great way to keep your members connected in between events or meetings.

Here’s a little sneak-peek at what a group looks like:

If you’d like more information about groups or are thinking of creating one in Banktastic, please contact brad@banktastic.com or lisa@banktastic.com. We’d be more than happy to setup a webinar to show you all the capabilities of a group on Banktastic.

Complete FinovateStartup Coverage
One more mention of FinovateStartup, and we’ll move on, we swear! We’d like to thank everyone who’s watched our interviews, viewed our episodes or read our reviews online. A week after the event, and our coverage has generated roughly 9,000 views! We were really glad to be able to cover the event and bring you the content as quickly as we did. It was a bit chaotic, but it definitely paid off. We hope you enjoyed it!

Just in case you missed it, here are links to all 4 posts reviewing the demoing companies:
The First 10 Companies
The Second 10 Companies
The Third 10 Companies
The Last 10 Companies

…and here are our interviews with Mint, CreditKarma & SmartyPig:

Banktastic Article: Innovation - The Growth Accelerator
One article that piqued Brad’s interest recently on Banktastic was one he posted entitled “Innovation - The Growth Accelerator.” The article basically talks about how innovation makes a creative environment in the banking industry. If you would like to read the original article and get involved in the discussion on Banktastic, click here to check everything out!

Private Messaging on Banktastic - We need your input!
Last week, we launched private messaging on Banktastic, and we’re in need of your feedback. As the system is right now, you’re allowed to message and be messaged only by your friends. The Banktastics are considering changing this so that you can send and receive messages from any Banktastic community member. If you feel that the system should be completely open, or if you’d prefer it stay semi-closed, please let us know what you’d like by commenting on this blog post. We really need your input, so please don’t hesitate to tell us!

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

Straight from Finovate!
Brad & Mark had an amazing time at FinovateStartup 2008 in San Francisco on Tuesday! The guys worked hard to provide reviews all day long of the 40 demoing companies, which can be read on the Banktastic Blog. Here are links to all 4 posts:
The First 10 Companies
The Second 10 Companies
The Third 10 Companies
The Last 10 Companies

The guys saw a lot of innovative companies demoing at Finovate, and we happened to get some really great interviews with a few of them. Snippets from companies that Brad interviewed (Mint, SmartyPig & CreditKarma) are featured in this episode. If you’d like to watch the interviews in their entirety, follow these links:
Interview with CreditKarma
Interview with Mint
Interview with SmartyPig

We’d like to say thanks to all Mike Ferrari, Ken Lin & Aaron Patzer for letting us interview them! We’re glad to have the opportunity to show the Banktatsic Community what you’re all about.

A big thanks to everyone that met up with Brad & Mark while they were in San Francisco. They had a blast, and you can check out the pictures here!

The Burst - Regulations Got You Down? (Ep. 13)

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Download this video

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

ICBA of New Mexico IT/Operations Conf.
A huge thanks to the Independent Community Bankers Association of New Mexico for holding such a great conference and having Brad as a Keynote presenter. Brad had a really great time and got to talk to a lot of interesting bankers in the process.

The main topic of this episode is the regulatory pressures banks face and how those pressures prevent banks from stepping outside the box and exploring social media. We’re all very adamant about utilizing social media, and it’s a shame that banks are afraid to try implementing any new technology due to regulations. As Brad said, you don’t necessarily have to jump off head first and create your own social community online. You can very easily connect with your customers online through something as simple as a blog.

Banks definitely need to get on board and try harder to get involved online. There are ways you can try out social media without compromising your security - others have done it just fine! It just takes a good try.

If you ever have a question about utilizing social media for your bank and need some good feedback, we’d encourage you to check out Banktastic.com to see what information is out there. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, ask the community and start a conversation. Banktastic is a great starting point for learning about social media and FIs.

Article: Wells Fargo Announces vSafe
Wells Fargo recently announced “vSafe”, which is an online safe for their retail customers. vSafe allows customers to store things like audio, video, pictures, and many other popular file types online without having to keep clutter at home or on their own computers. This is a really great service, so props to you, Wells Fargo!

Article: Frontier Airlines Files Chapter 11
Frontier Airlines recently had to file for Chapter 11 due to an unreasonable increase in withholdings in funds received from ticket sales by their credit card processor, First Data. First Data notified the airlines that they intended to begin withholding 50% of their credit card sales, which was a huge threat that inevitably ran Frontier out of business.

The Burst - How Do You Bank? (Ep. 11)

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Download this video

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

Brad’s Thoughts on This Episode
Hey folks, sorry for the ’silence’ this week but whaddya gonna do, right?! I just again wanted to give MUCHO props to Seesmic for helping us with this episode. Those video responses were received within a minutes after my initial post and they came from all over the world. It’s a great way to see how conversations have truly gone global.

Anyway, I realize that a lot of these folks are on one end of the tech-savvy scale but I don’t necessarily think they are exceptions. People want their banking experience to be less obtrusive so by using a lot of online services they are able to do so but notice that these people still don’t feel comfortable handling ‘bigger chores’ like car loan or mortgages yet because the online experience hasn’t made them feel comfortable enough to do it. All great responses and hopefully it provides some insight into the minds of the banking consumer.

Thanks again for watching The Burst and yes, we are changing the industry!

Thanks to Everybody from Seesmic!
We’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone that participated in our Seesmic video survey. We got some fantastic feedback, all of which will help bankers learn more about the banking trends of everyday people. You all were a great help, so thank you!

The Burst - It’s All Good (Ep. 10)

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Download this video

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

Good People Day 2008
Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV declared April 3, 2008, the first ever Good People Day. The point was to give props to the good people in your life, so Brad wanted to take a minute and say thanks to each and every person that’s ever visited Banktastic, watched an episode of our show, and helped make us who we are today. We couldn’t do it without you all, so thank you, good people!

Website of the Week: Banktastic.com!
That’s right, we chose ourselves as the Website of the Week. If you somehow missed the big release of Banktastic’s new look this past Tuesday, April 1st, run over to our community and check it out! We added a new reviews section to Banktastic that allows users to rate and comment on vendors and their products & services. Also, we had a great April Fool’s video, and if you missed it, watch it now!

Questions from Banktastic
The first question that Brad talked about was posted by Roz G., and her question was how many of you have contingency plans for a Pandemic in your BCP? Watch Brad’s response in the video above, or click the link to follow the discussion on Banktastic.

The second question that we’re discussing was asked by JB Dearing, and he asked so with the makeover, does this mean Banktastic is out of beta? The short answer to that is we’re never really out of beta. Follow the conversation on Banktastic to see what others had to say by following the question link.

The Burst - Have Your Cake & Eat It Too (Ep. 9)

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Thanks for checking out this episode of BanktasticTV’s “The Burst.” Here are some important notes about this episode:

How long should The Burst be?
We’ve been going back and forth on what we feel is the right length for each episode of The Burst. We want to know what you think! Do you feel like it’s too long? Are you aching for just a little bit more information? Maybe a Banktastic minute? Let us know your thoughts by commenting on the blog!

Big Changes to Banktastic
Banktastic’s a-changin’! Expect some really big things on April 1st. If we say much more, we’ll have to kill ya. All we can say is be there, and be there early!

FiServ Galaxy Facebook Application
Mike Templeton posted a really great article about FiServ Galaxy’s Facebook application calledMyMoney. Though Brad has run into a few issues finding more than just a hand full of FIs on the application, they’ve done a great thing moving to Facebook to get in touch with this younger market. Good on ya, FiServ Galaxy!

Finovate Startup
Brad & Mark (The CU Scoop) will be attending the Finovate Startup in San Francisco on April 29. This event features companies that are helping to change the way of the financial industry. A lot of innovative companies are going to be there, like last week’s Website of the Week FindABetterBank.com”, so look forward to some great footage when they get back.

Website of the Week: CakeFinancial.com
Brad’s favorite site of the Week is CakeFinancial.com. CakeFinancial merges social networking and stock trading in a really awesome way. You can see your friends’ recent trades, track the top companies, and so much more. It’s a smart way to track your investments while connecting you with the best information available. It’s good to see a site making trading really interactive like this.
