Interesting that Quicken decided, although kind of late, to make their PFM free to compete with mint.com, geezeo.com, wesabe.com and the likes.

I still wonder how they will 1) cope with their cannibalization of their own customer base (current users of the software application moving to the online application) and 2) compete with the above mentioned folks who have sometime under their belts running and testing their great user centric PFM features.

  2. Quicken Scott Says:

Thanks for the interest Bob. Remember, we’re not a new player even online…

Intuit has a long history of providing products free on the web. Both QuickBooks ad TurboTax have been successfully deploying free products without canibalizing our paid products.

The new free Quicken Online is no different. It’s built for a different customer than the desktop product. It’s now built for the 70% of consumers who live paycheck to paycheck and need a forward-looking tool to help manage their cash flow.

Quicken Online is not Quicken desktop for the web. We hope you check it out to see our new vision and how Quicken Online is helping you look forward instead of backward like the competitors you mentioned. We’ve been there and done that for 25 years. We’re focused on looking ahead, not behind.

    Todd,

you get the video brief format. In 1 minute you packed a lot in. Very good.

@rob Intuit maybe late to game but Mint and Wesabe did not work with my bank and Intuit does. I last checked Mint last week and they did not even point to my bank anymore, it was some other website. I immediately opened up a customer service case. That is a big fail as far as I am concerned and by the way. I just checked. They still point to some strange website. With Wesabe, I had to down load a Firefox plug in or log into my internet baning account and down load all my transactions then upload them. Most with out automatic category tags. I had none of these issues with Quicking Online. I signed, selected my bank, provided log-in info, and I was down. Most identified accounts had categories provided. I was surprised but then I should not be, its Intuit.
